We have mentioned cloud-based solutions several times over the past few months and how we’d like to integrate our services into a cloud environment. For months now we have been testing like mad! We now have many ethProxy™ clients running within our cloud environments! This is exciting news because now we can offer fully scalable protection across multiple nodes and clusters per customer. Each customer will have their data/IP’s/traffic fully separated from other clients. This improves things in multiple ways but one of the biggest is the ability to separate protection into dedicated resources per client. When we first started we ran into issues where attacks could cause ingress issues on other customers. This is no longer the case.
Now for the big update! We’re offering our ethProxy™ ddos protected virtual servers, fully configured and ready to go! The server offerings will allow for fully scalable cloud-based hosting with the ability to grow/shrink on-demand.  This is not only great for the customer under attack at all times but it’s also great for customers who wish to purchase protection in case of future attacks. We simply configure you a virtual server with full server resources as you would get when buying a dedicated server. We are also planning to offer full server management as well as SolusVM control panel integration.

All shared hosting servers will have an update tonight to the next release cycle of cPanel/WHM. This will include all shared hosting servers and all ddos protected shared servers running cPanel. This update is to allow implementation of newer perks/extras that are included with the latest versions of cPanel. Thus far we have delayed moving to a faster release cycle due to issues with incompatibility between RVSkins and newer versions as well as some inconsistencies on configuration between Linux and FreeBSD.

This update will include all servers, including the FreeBSD shared hosting systems. Please submit a support request if you have any feedback or concerns. We’re hoping for this upgrade to be smooth and you may see some delay in connection times while connecting to your cPanel/WHM interface during these upgrades. The upgrades will include upgrades to MySQL and PHP.

We are excited to tell you that we have new equipment racked that is owned by ServerOrigin in the Netherlands Ecatel datacenter. These servers are 1Gbps connected with sheer ServerOrigin style, these are fully unmetered. We’re now including vePortal on all new nodes! If you are a current Netherlands/Germany customer and would like to be moved to the new Netherlands nodes, please place a ticket with support@serverorigin.com. This will now allow management for you to backup/restore/rebuild/reboot your own VPS without intervention from support. You can check out the client options available within vePortal on their site at: http://www.veportal.com/gallery.htm

Please understand there is one drawback to the move. We cannot migrate current VPS’ off older nodes due to the architecture differences between HyperVM and vePortal, we have attempted and there are always issues. If you would like to move your data, IP addresses, etc. Please let us know and we’ll get you moved over!

Germany is next: We have new servers being stood up in Frankfurt and should be available by the middle of this week. Once they are available and ready, we will be offering moves to the new nodes which will include vePortal management as well. We have had significant problems in the past several months due to the way we were partnering with other providers to offer services internationally. Due to those issues, we are now shipping our own hardware (New HP DL380 G6’s) to all international datacenters we serve. The servers will be configured with 1Gbps *DEDICATED* unmetered links with full 100Mbps links to each VPS on the node with average speeds planned at 60Mbps during peak times per VPS.

As of approximately 04:15PM CDT we introduced many changes to the ethProxy product that we have been working on for months now. The changes from today include:

- Reduced possibility of false positives. Chance of false positives should be 1/20,000

- SYN Attack filtering updates - Several modifications directly related to how we identify and block DDoS SYN floods. Identification time has dropped rapidly and the ability to buffer such floods until the identification and initial block is nearly immediate.

- HUGE INCREASE IN SPEED!  We have introduced new algorithms for caching static/dynamic website content. Current customers will likely see between a 50%-110% increase in loading speeds. 

- Entirely new method of identifying UDP floods with much less resources. No delay should be seen on attacks as large as 10Gbps+.

- MAJOR UPDATE: Major update to the ethProxy engine. Faster request handling of HTTP/SSL requests as well as additional modules for filtering EMAIL. That's right, we can now filter EMAIL PORT attacks and proxy good traffic!

- Many many minor changes not worth listing here...

All shared servers are under conversion from Fantastico to InstallaTron. It is a far superior product with faster updates and overall better management functionality. We’ve had dozens of issues where Fantastico can’t connect to licensing servers, it’s slow, the updates aren’t out when products are released. They have continued to cause borderline security issues and we’ve continually had to work through hours of tickets due to their issues.

We’ve migrated all servers to InstallaTron and we believe you will see a HUGE improvement in responsiveness and update releases. We welcome your feedback!

We would like to inform you that around 17:40 CST we implemented a new module that has been in the works for nearly six months. Our system as you may already know implements both the DDoS protection of our datacenter and our custom filtering routers, optimizers, and IP analysis clusters. The technology we have written in-house is completely modular so we can add and take away pieces as needed. We rolled out the new product today and its purpose is to lower the number of accidental bans and lower the throughput of DDoS traffic that is received at your site.

This tool is now proving to lower our overall output by 35% of what it has been on average daily. Our new verification techniques allow for legit traffic to pass with less chances of being accidentally discarded. This module also provides the functions to check for malformed traffic or attempts to find vulnerabilities. This will lower your chances of being hacked and lower the chances of a hacker to find vulnerabilities/exploits in the code of your website.
